Add a run session with the Nike running app

This might be old news - Now Nike allow us to add a run to the Nike+ website using the running app on Android and iPhone. Before this, we can only manually add a run through a 3rd party website.

Let us quickly go through how do I add my distance, pace and duration using my ios app on my iPhone. It should work about the same way if you own an Android phone.

1) Sign in to your Nike+ app and tap on activity

2) Tap on the + icon on the top right corner of the screen

3) It will bring you to the screen below where everything is pretty straight forward

4) Manually set distance of your run

5) Manually set duration of your run

6) Manually set pace of your run

That's it, I wish I can manually key in my fuel too!

Nike+ Coach now on Android

It's been a long long time since I last ran so I dusted off my running shoes started the Nike+ app. Was surprised to see the Nike+ coach back on again and now its on the mobile.

From what I know the old coach program is not available for quite some time when new Nike+ Running site was launched a few years ago back in 2012.

Now you select coach in the drop down list on your Nike+ Running app.

"Get training programs, run reminders and the push you need to go farther and faster than ever before. With Nike+ Coach, you will get everything you need to be race-day ready.

Choose between 5k, 10k, Half-marathon or a full Marathon training!

Choose between beginner, intermediate and advance.

I chose 5K beginner to start getting back to running again.

You can also key in your race name and date so Nike+ can remind you when to run. Nike+ Running Coach will provide you with daily workout instructions, weekly progress updates with detailed stats, and alerts about upcoming workouts.

Inside of Nike+ Fuelband

This 26 minutes video by mike shows us much more than Fuelband ice does! Watch mike teardown the Nike+ Fuelband piece by piece.

What we learn from this video:
- There are 2 Fuelband batteries
- Fuelband batteries are curved
- Fuelband battery are quite impossible to replaceable
- Fuelband can still run on only one battery
- THe silicon rubber is injection moulded so it will have to cut open to reach the components inside

NIKE+ CHALLENGE on iPhone and iPod

Good news for iphone and ipod users, bad news for android users...yet again!

Latest update to the Nike+ Running App for iPhone and iPod touch boosts motivation with new interactive features.

Nike invites runners to take on their friends with the latest Nike+ Running App update for iPhone and iPod touch. With the re-launched Nike+ Challenges feature, runners can set a distance goal, invite Nike+ friends to join and race to the finish line.

Runners’ insights on the thrill of competition helped inform the new Nike+ Challenges feature. Users can determine the Challenge’s name, mileage goal, time period and participants. A new chat feature allows friends to encourage each other and share tips throughout the challenge. Runners can stay motivated by checking the live leaderboard to track progress and see where they rank amongst their friends.

The runner who completes the Nike+ Challenge distance first receives a gold medal badge, while all Challenge finishers receive a white medal. The badges sync with the runner’s Nike+ profile, which keeps a log of all completed and in-progress Nike+ Challenges.

Nike+ Challenges is the latest addition to digital services offered by the Nike+ Running experience, which includes heat maps showing popular running routes; leaderboards to compare running stats; in-run cheers from friends; audio feedback on pace, distance and time; a Powersong feature for extra motivation; and positive feedback from some of Nike's top athletes.

Nike+ Running is part of the overall Nike+ community of athletes. Since its launch in 2006, users have recorded more than 980 million miles. Athletes can visit the single-destination nikeplus.com to access all their Nike+ data – including lifetime NikeFuel points accumulated from all Nike+ devices – and connect with others across sports, around the world.

Where can I find fuelband ICE?

Nike’s FuelBand is already gracing the wrists of athletes and wannabe-athletes, but if you insist on standing out when you’re working out then you need the new, limited edition. The Nike+ FuelBand ICE is, as the frostily cool name suggests, a translucent version of the original FuelBand.

Inside there’s the same three-axis accelerometer and array of white and colored LEDs to help track your movements and keep record of your fitness. The difference is, rather than the sober black rubber of the regular FuelBand, you get to see some of the electronics as they track whether you’re a couch potato or a hot potato.

That tracking is measured not only in steps or calories, but Nike+ Fuel points. The company claims it has done fancy research into what sort of movements correspond to what sort of activity, and that allows the FuelBand to recognize exactly what you’re doing – as long as you’re moving your arm – and score you accordingly.

Hit your target, and you get a light-show on the band itself, and more congratulations on Nike’s socially-enabled tracking site to which the FuelBand synchronizes. There, you can monitor your progress, set goals, and share your successes with people on Facebook.

The Nike+ FuelBand ICE will go on sale at NikeTown locations in New York, San Francisco and London on July 27. It will also be available at London’s Boxpark, the House of Innovation at Selfridges, and New York’s 21 Mercer Street. Meanwhile regular availability will follow on come August 12 from Nike’s online store. Stocks will be limited, though Nike isn’t saying exactly how many ICE units will be made.

DIY Nike+ Sensor Pouch

Today I came across a video by "nikeplusrunners" who came up with an easy and free way to use the Nike+ sensor without using Nike shoes! I've tried running using this method and my Nike GPS sportwatch has no problem detecting it during my entire run.

Step 1: Place your Nike sensor into a platic bag or zipper bag

Step 2: Slot it all the way in between the tounge of your shoe and the shoe laces.

You won't even feel it during your run. It's that easy! And it's water resistant too! There's no need for any costly sensor pouches or drilling your shoes...

How Do I Manually Add A Run To The Nike+ Website?

Question:

I have 4 run/walks from over the past 5 months that are not showing on the Nike+ site. I just found out the USB from the Nike+ device never connected as I thought. Can I manually add my runs to this site?

Solution #1:

According to the Nike, it is not possible to manually add or edit the runs but you still follow these steps to have the Nike support help you add in your runs:

1) Go to Nike Support Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/nikerunning/app_265092000187882
2) Post a question to the Nike support page, asking them to add your run into your profile.

Please include your:
  • Nike+ screen name(case-sensitive)
  • date of workout
  • distance of workout

Solution #2:

How is Nike+ Heat Map Calculated?

Nike plus heat map question: how is the Heat Map in Nike+ Maps calculated? Is it after a number of runs or must there be several different devices/users clocking the GPS data before it turns orange? Thanks for reading!

Answer: Nike calcuates the number of users running the same route. So the more number of runners who have synced their GPS data of that particular area/route the more red the "heat" will show on the map.

How Do You Pronounce Nike?

The Original Greek Goddess of Victory
Like everybody is saying, the word Nike is not spelled like it sounds. The American company Nike used the same name as the goddess of Victory in ancient Greece (Greek mythology), and the Greeks pronounced this like NIKEYYYY. There are two urban ways of pronouncing Nike. The European way - "NIGHKK" but it is okay for Americans to pronounce as "NIKEY" as it is their country's pride!
